A 40th Wedding Anniversary Ring Made from Memories
There is something very moving about creating a jewel that carries a couple’s shared history.

For this commission, a lovely couple I have grown fond of wanted a ring to mark their 40th wedding anniversary. We used her heirloom gold and some of the diamonds from her original ring, and I sourced a deep ruby for the centre.

Once the gold was tested, I melted it down and reworked it into a new band. Sometimes I make models in silver for clients, especially when a design needs to be visualised in three dimensions. I am not the best at realistic drawing. Abstract yes, but not technical sketches, so making a model is a faster and clearer way to show how a jewel will look and to resolve the finer details before creating the final piece.

The result is a ring that feels timeless, glowing with warmth, history, and love.
With gold prices being so high at the moment, remodelling or trading in your existing gold is a wonderful way to create a new piece without starting entirely from scratch. It is sustainable, deeply personal, and rooted in sentiment, the kind of jewellery that feels alive with memory.
