A Rough Diamond for a Rare Gem: A 60th Birthday Bespoke Necklace

To celebrate her mother’s 60th birthday, my client wanted to create something truly personal. She’d seen one of my previous pieces and felt a connection to its use of a rough diamond, natural, raw, and beautifully imperfect. It felt like the perfect choice to honour her mother, someone strong, grounded, and radiant.

We settled on a teardrop shaped pendant in 9ct yellow gold, cradling a natural uncut diamond. Above it, a tiny white diamond was set for contrast, but also, to me, as a subtle reflection of the mother-daughter bond. Two stones, distinct yet connected.

The pendant hangs from a blackened sterling silver chain, adding a touch of depth and texture that complements the organic qualities of the rough diamond. When she came to collect it, my client was overcome with emotion. She told me through tears how much her mother had done for others, and how deeply she deserved something beautiful, just for herself.

Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.
