One-of-a-Kind Signet Ring with Ancient Gold Fanam and White Rose Cut Diamond

I’m thrilled to share a new addition to my upcoming shop update: a handmade sterling silver signet ring set with an ancient gold fanam coin and a sparkling white rose cut diamond. This unique piece blends history, symbolism, and contemporary design — all brought together in a one-of-a-kind ring.

What is a fanam?
Fanams are tiny historic coins once used in South India and Sri Lanka. Struck in gold or silver, these miniature coins date back centuries and were used in trade long before modern currency systems. What I find especially fascinating is how fanams were decorated — not with portraits or words, but with abstract punch marks and symbols. They’re mysterious, beautifully imperfect, and full of untold stories.

As I get older I find that I am becoming increasingly connected to my Sri Lankan heritage. I’m drawn to these ancient objects that carry both cultural weight and artistic abstraction. The symbolic, weathered marks on each fanam feel more like amulets than money, and it’s this blend of history and meaning that inspired me to incorporate them into my jewellery collections.

This silver signet ring features a genuine gold fanam soldered to the surface, with a white rose cut diamond set at its heart. The result is a striking piece of jewellery that brings together the ancient and the precious. It’s tactile, rich with texture, and made to be worn and treasured every day.

Whether you're a lover of symbolic jewellery, a collector of antique-inspired rings, or someone seeking a meaningful engagement or pinky ring, this piece carries a story all its own.

This ring will be available in my online shop update on Friday 28th March at 10am. As always, each piece is handmade in my UK studio with care and intention, and no two are ever the same.

If you’d like early access or a reminder when it goes live, make sure you’re signed up to my mailing list.

Thank you for supporting independent jewellers and for following along as I explore the connections between heritage, symbolism, and adornment.
