The Story Behind a One-of-a-Kind Snake Ring: A Bespoke Commission
Creating bespoke jewellery for my clients is one of the most rewarding and challenging parts of my work. Because each jewel tells a personal story, and the process of transforming a client’s vision into a wearable treasure is a challenge I enjoy. Here’s a story about a commission I designed and made for a client using her own gold and diamonds that resulted in a snake ring. As we are now in 2025 which is the year of the snake, it only seems fitting to share the story in more detail with you.
From Concept to Creation: The Snake Ring’s Journey
When my client approached me, she was very clear about one thing: she wanted a snake ring. Initially, we looked the idea of a snake eating its tail, which is an ancient symbol known as the Ouroboros, representing eternity and renewal. As we discussed her vision further, I showed her a simple entwined ring I had made for a client some years ago, so my client found herself drawn to that design instead. This became the foundation for the bespoke piece.
My client entrusted me with two rings of her own: one plain gold and one set with diamonds. She wanted these materials to be reimagined into her new jewel. Repurposing sentimental jewellery is something I love doing, because it allows the story of the old pieces to carry forward into something new and unique. The image below shows the mood board I created for my client and the bottom 3 images in the grid are my clients gold and diamonds that rings that I used.

Designing the Snake Ring: A Collaborative Process
I began the process by making a series of silver models as per the image below, experimenting with different shapes and structures to bring her vision to life. After a few iterations, we arrived at a design that felt perfect: a sculptural snake wrapped around itself, exuding strength, elegance, and symbolism.

To highlight the sentimental diamonds, I incorporated the largest one into the snake’s head as the focal point. The smaller diamonds from her original rings were carefully set around the main stone, adding texture and sparkle while keeping her personal history at the heart of the design.
The finished ring was cast in her own recycled gold, resulting in a weighty and tactile piece that is both meaningful and sustainable.
The Final Piece: A Cherished, One-of-a-Kind Treasure
The result was a truly unique snake ring that my client can cherish for years to come. It’s a sculptural, eye-catching piece that embodies her personal style, her love of symbolism, and her desire to repurpose her sentimental jewellery. Every detail was thoughtfully designed to reflect her vision and her story.

Bespoke commissions like this are a reminder of why I love what I do. Each piece is an opportunity for me to create something deeply meaningful, personal, and enduring. Whether it’s incorporating family heirloom stones, reimagining old jewellery, or starting entirely from scratch, the bespoke process allows me to bring my clients’ dreams to life.
