Watercolour Sapphires and New Jewels for the N4 Indie Jewellers Market
I have been painting abstract watercolours for many years as a quiet and personal pleasure. The soft shifts of colour and the gentle way one hue moves into another have always reminded me of the gemstones I am drawn to in my work. I have never been interested in gemstones that feel overly perfect or predictable. I am drawn to stones with markings and inclusions, stones that feel as though they carry a life of their own.

Recently I have begun working with these bi coloured sapphires that hold two tones within a single stone and these are lab grown sapphires.
As a material they are remarkable and allow me to explore colour in a more painterly way. A few of the stones I have found look as though they have been lifted straight from one of my own watercolour paintings, soft, luminous and otherworldly. I have started calling them Watercolour Sapphires.

These sapphires have inspired a small series of new jewels that I will be bringing to the N4 Jewellers Market at Abney Hall in Stoke Newington on Saturday 29th November. Alongside my rough diamond pieces I will have a selection of Watercolour Sapphires available to see in person. It is a lovely opportunity to view the stones up close and to talk about commissions or future ideas. I will be sharing more in the days leading up to the event.
